Adventures of the Deep Six

Battle at Vaarth Keep
Where'd that Minotaur come from, wait a Manitcore, What? A bugbear is in charge?

The Deep six arrived at the Keep of Vaarth to find it in bad repairs, over grown and destroyed. It looked like it had been bombarded by giant stones. Several Giant sized corpses were found buried in rubble and overgrown with vines.

Feydark did some recon in the area leading up to the keep but didn’t find any fresh tracks, though Kael suspects he hadn’t looked very hard.

Kael snuck up to the keep to do some internal recon. He had to avoid an old shed outside the keep that looked ready to collapse. The hair on his arms and back of his neck got all tingly when he looked at it. After finding the sword of durgedin in that horrible slime cave that poisoned him, he just knows the best bits are hidden in the places no one would look. But he resisted the urge by telling himself after the keep is cleared he could check it out at his leisure.

Sneaking up and around the keep Kael heard talking from within. What sounded like many humanoid voices and one deep bestial voice. Kael tried to pantomime this info to everyone only to confuse them all and get waved back.

They decided to set up an ambush at the gap in the wall and wilk and dio would approach from the front.

As they approached Dio shouted out some greetings in giant. Two goblin’s riding worgs rode out to attack Dio and Wilk. while 4 hobgoblins came out of a back room, 2 spotted Kael and approached to attack the others ran out the hole in the wall that Kael had climbed through to approach Dio and Wilk from behind, only to spot the ambush waiting outside the wall and engage Feydark, Raven and Sing.

Things were looking pretty good until the Minotaur popped his ugly head out. Kael started yelling about the horribly ugly bullheaded giant.

The Minotaur charged Kael in an attempt to gore him but Kael ducked behind a corner of wall. The ensuing assault left him barely conscious before he managed to slip away.

The Hobogolins on the outside charged in and kept to close to the ambush party for Feydark to be able to use his bow. (Kael notes in the future we might want to setup or ranged attackers so they aren’t clustered). Things were pretty evenly match in our favor. Until the Manticore showed up.

At the front entrance the battle was going well, Dio and Wilk were in the process of making short work of the Worg riders.

Kael ran as fast as his beat to a bloody pulp body would take him around the keep towards Wilk (swearing the whole time he was going to buy one of those belts of healing next chance he got). Hobgoblins and Minotaur in pursuit.

Drellins Ferry
Trash talking gnoll and the many headed dragon
  • On the road to Drellins Ferry the party was set upon by a band of hobgoblins, hellhounds and gnolls.
  • The leader was a cleric of some sort
  • a few of the hobs got away on stolen horses and the cleric summonend a hippogriff or gryphon(i forget which)
    • As the cleric flew off he shouted a bunch of trash talk about killing us finishing with “The Red Hand will be your Doom!”
  • The Deep six finally arrived in Drellins Ferry
  • Learned that there were attacks happening throughout the area, that farms were getting wiped out and caravans raided.
  • The Deep Six figured this was related to the threat they were sent there to deal with and when asked by norpo the speaker of drellins ferry if we would help with the threat the Deep six made a bargain
    • The deep six would investigate and help as the could if the threats were the same
    • The town would provide room and board in Drellins Ferry for the Deep Six while they helped
  • The party was sent to find Jord the tracker who was to point us in the right direction.
  • On the way to Skull Gorge we were set upon by a multi-headed dragon(hydra)
    • The battle went badly the deep six had no idea how to deal with a hydra
    • By the time they fled the entire party was nearly wiped out and the hydra had grown to 12 heads.
    • Everyone met up in Drellins Ferry as the party was split up caught on separate sides of a small river

Bargain with a Roper
Is feeding a Grey Dwarf, that we’re just going to kill anyway, to a Roper REALLY that wrong?!?!

We explored the depths of the caves under the keep.
we found a room with a path leading from a door to some
sarcophagi(maybe I am totally remembering that part wrong) there were
also some stairs. I am not sure if Kael was able to open the door or
not and don’t think we really explored the sarcophagi other than to
make a quick pass through looking for something evil to feed the

One of the rooms had a fast moving stream flowing through it and then
plunging through a hole in the floor. A few of us slipped in and
other plunged down into a pool. The others caught up by taking a side
passage that connected up with the pool. On the shore of the pool
there were a few rooms with rotting supplies and some kind of slime.
We locked the slime in and departed. Feeling clever that we didn’t
fight a needless battle. Only to have Feydark to plunk an arrow into
a giant tentacled one eyed column in the next chamber.

The tentacles shot out and grabbed a few of us and it looked grim but
we were able to make a bargain, we’d bring it food if it let us go.
It held Feydark as collateral and peevishly gave us only a few hours
to feed it. We scrambled about and didn’t thoroughly investigate a
few areas(don’t remember if we did a better job after freeing

We got conned by some grey dwarves who Kael thinks carted off all the
weapons. We bested two of them but the third was to much for us in
our greatly weakened state. Feydark was held prisoner and Raven
opposed to an exchange and worried for Feydark stayed behind, leaving
us to party members down on that encounter. We dropped two of the
grey dwarves the third retreated, Kael tried to be intimidating but is
sure that is yet another of his failures in this debacle. We took the
just dead grey dwarf and the mostly dead grey dwarf to the
roper(another name I am sure Kael doesn’t know) and made the swap.

We did some re-examining of the areas we glossed over after the trade,
I think but I am a little shakey on this.

The third grey dwarf was gone along with their stuff. FAIL!

we started to explore the remaining areas and some ghosty thing jumped
us. I think wilk turned it and it took off, but I might be wrong on
that as well. Most of the rooms in that area were basically empty.

Kael is kind of somber and morose from worries that what ever weapons
we were sent here to find were carted off by the Duergar (not sure if
he knows that name for them) and fears that our failure to secure them
might come back to haunt us and Waterdeep in the future. Kael also
has some very conflicted thoughts on this portent we were sent to
find, is it that the Grey dwarves were here to collect the same
weapons? He feels perhaps that isn’t omen’y enough and to mundane,
and yet there are no other signs we have been smart enough to
decipher. All in all he is feeling kind of dejected at the moment,
like we failed in our task and worthy of inclusion in the Grey Hand
Enforcers. Kael has NEARLY died a few times and is not alone in that,
and the hero’s in stories never have such a hard time do they. Surely
if we were “hero’s” it’d be easier right? The meteor would fall from
the sky right as we appear and lead us to the lost tomb with the
prophetic epitaph. We’d never bungle into a split party and even if
split would have easily dealt with the grey dwarves and not even
noticed the stirges or fiery traps.

Missing Princess
Dark and evil creatures roam the forest at night looking for somethin

Hey Austin,

I don’t have my notes handy so this summary will be missing specifics
like names.

We started back in Waterdeep the trip back being uneventful and we
were all hanging out in an inn celebrating our success. Kael was
making the rounds telling his story about Diogenes the Dragon Wrestler
and trying to gather information about any news or rumors.

He heard a group talking about how they would be the ones to collect
the reward for finding some noble womans missing daughter. Kael asked
about and got the name for the noble woman and then slipped the bar
wench a handful of gold to keep the strongest spirits in the house
flowing to the other group figuring a massive hangover would slow them

The group minus Diogenes who wanted to keep his drink on went to find
the noble woman. She turned out to be Half-elvin and Feydark ended up
doing most of the talking as she was apparently a racist Half-elf that
wasn’t to fond of humans.

The reward was 200gp.

The daughter’s father was a rich merchant and an elf, so the daughter
was a very Elvin half-elf from what I understood. The daughter went
hunting with her uncle and disappeared in the woods near a stone ring
that legend has is a portal to the land of the star elves. The star
elves grew sick of “mortals” and built their own demi-plane that was
always in twilight and these stone rings were the gateways.

Feydark went to a library where you pay by the hour to do some
research. Didn’t find out much but kept coming across to the dusk
hunter or something like that. A legend about some horrible beast
that hunts or eats souls or something in the area around the rings.

We set out right away.

Wandered the woods waiting for it. Our Elvin ranger was leading and
led us into an Elvin ambush. Except the didn’t attack just surrounded
us with bows drawn and asked in Elvin, which only one of us spoke,
what we wanted. Feydark explained, they said they heard of the girl
and would take us to the ring but would not stick around as the place
it took us to was a prison now and she said it would be our tomb.

They led us to a ring and then took off with a dire warning about not
hanging out for death to find them and it being or tomb.

Everyone but Kael and Singh hung out in the ring waiting for night.
Singh took a look out spot atop one of the monolithic stones forming
the ring. And Kael hid outside the ring.

Dusk came everyone in the ring disappeared.

Singh shrugged his shoulders and jumped down as Kael was saying “Wai………t”

Singh was gone.

Kael debated a bit, being a rogue he felt no great need to willingly
enter a “prison”, Not wanting to be a dead rogue he felt even stronger
about entering a prison/tomb.

He eventually tied a rope around a tree and then his waist and entered
the ring to disappear as well.

He rope when he arrived was cut off where it broke the border of the ring.

Everyone was on a small island in an ocean inside a ring. There was a
walkway that went off to a Tower and there were four other towers, i
might be wrong on the count, spread out. All connected with walkways
at different levels. The skeleton of some great sea serpent curled
around and formed a kind of canopy over the walkway we needed to take.

We decided to camp out and see if we would go back. We didn’t and it
remained twilight, the night sky never changing the whole time.

We decided we need to explore and find a way out and we needed to make
haste because we only had what supplies we had brought with out.

We crossed the walkway and found the door to the tower open, we
entered and found a bunch of massacred Orcs. And a statue in the room
greeted us and told us to make our selves comfortable and take the
waters or some such. But before we could do anything or everyone
could get in a giant owlbear attacked.

It was a brutal battle but we put it down.

Found its layer off one room and a nice room with more bodies in
another that had lots of comfy cushions. The bodies animated and Wilk
turned them and I mean really turned them they all exploded, the
easiest battle of the evening.

We went on from there with only one exit. This was a room with a pool
and fountain and some more bodies all bloody and some bloody foot
prints leading to a door, there was another door adjacent to it.

We checked both doors one lead to an alcove with stairs and the bloody
foot prints lead to a room with robes hanging from hooks and a body
laying in the middle of the room. Body was all bloody and it looked
like someone or something had tried to flay it, the skin on the back
was peeled back.

We didn’t see anything that could attack us in the room so Kael began
a search, found some robes worth a bit of money and then got attacked
by an empty sack of skin. It was horrifying and one hit dropped Kael
from full hit points to 0. A long and horrible battle went on, Wilk
was almost constricted to death by the thing before it was down. We
decided to rest in the room with the exploded/turned skeletons and
cushions before preceding.

After we camped we went up the stairs. Found two rooms at the top one
with a desk, Kael examined the desk and got attacked by a wraith that
not only drained HP but Con points. Another big battle before the
wraith went down.

Not much in the desk but we discovered if we had a way to get the desk
out and back to town it would be worth alot. 1400gp or something like

off that room was another door that lead to a series of rooms with not
much but some tables.

The other room off the stairs was also uneventful, two doors off it.
A privy and a ball room. Diogenes, Wilk and Feydark I think entered
to Coup De Grace the bodies we found within. The room was quit dark.

Diogenes sensed something dark or cold in there, not sure if he got
attacked. And from about above on a balcony some orcs appeared with
bows and told us to get out of the room that some evil lurked in the
dark, they directed us to another door in the room and some stairs.

We headed up they said they would take us to their leader. Now on the
third level they took us to a door which lead to a walkway that
crossed over the waters to the second tower where we found the orc

There were many orcs, a few hobgoblins as well I believe.

The leader said they came to raid and loot and found all kinds of
undead. There was a girl that the leader of the undead took to his
tower. The leader of the undead also was supposed to have the way
out. The Orc offered a truce, they wouldn’t molest us and give us a
place to rest and we could partake of their supplies if we found a way

Kael did a sense motive and noticed he was being evasive and worried
about something out an archway. Glancing out Kael spotted a giant
spider scurry away. Kael asked about it and what was really going on
and the Orc leader played dumb.

Thats it. I think. Like I said no notes at the moment so it might be
a little spotty.
